Plasma, Advanced Materials and Surface Engineering (PAM-SE)

 FOCUS

  • Development of plasma processes for thin films growth, based on RF and DC sputtering and on plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition (PACVD), transferable in industrial field.
  • Synthesis and study of innovative materials.
  • Exploration of energy and cost-efficient materials for second and third generation photovoltaics
  • Surface engineering and functionalization.

MISSION

Adressing research challenges in the design and applications of innovative materials able to be deployed in tribo-mechanics, energy, environment protection and bio-medical fields. In this regard, the research is driven by both technology trends in materials and systems and emerging applications. To pursue this vision, PAM-SE research relies on skilled researchers in plasma physics and chemistry, material science, solid state physics, advanced analytical techniques and diagnostics, and also on strong collaborations with national and international research centres and universities and partnerships with industry. The Unit provides access to national and foreign university students involved in PhD formation and trainings.
